Adoptable Animals

The animals listed on this page are "referrals," which means that their owners are trying to find new homes for them, but they are not in our program. We have listed them here as a courtesy to the people trying to place them in new homes. Our adoption application and adoption fees do not apply to these animals. We have not met them, do not know their temperament, and do not know if they are up to date on their shots, etc. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting one of these animals, you should ask all of those questions of the person whose contact information is listed.

Please understand that we take no responsibility for the animals on this page. We are simply trying to provide free help to people who need it. Many referral animals find wonderful new homes through this webpage, and we wish the same for all of these.

To post an animal on this page, please send us the following in one email:

1.  a photo of the animal in JPG format,

2.  a short bio stating the animal's name, breed, age, quirks, etc. (as you see below), and

3.  the phone number you would like potential adopters to call.

Please do not send us a Word document with the photo embedded (like a poster) as we cannot use that.

Mouse *referral

BREED: Mix Breed

AGE 6 months Old

Listed 1/30/12

This is Mouse, she a year and a half to two years old, is 35- 40lbs and stands about a foot and a half tall. We found her on the street about 6 months ago, and she stole our hearts, but life is changing for us and it has become obvious that we need to find her a more permanent home.

She loves running in the woods, swimming, and if you give her a tennis ball she will entertain herself (and you) for hours. But if you happen to have a late Friday night and want to sleep till noon, she will happily stay snuggled by your side, preferably under the blankets. She has never eaten anything that wasn't a toy, is completely house broken and rarely barks (unless she is chasing the light glare of your cellphone cast on the living room wall). If you want to laugh constantly, this is the dog for you. She knows basic commands (sit, stay, down) and walks well on a leash with her training collar on, but if it’s not on she knows it, and will pull a little. She still needs help with her off leash 'come' command but there is no doubt she is capable, we just haven't had the time to really practice, and on woods walks off leash she stays close. Whenever we have been consistent in her training, she has learned everything we taught her very quickly.

She loves people and has done well with some cats. She is also great with children, however I would suggest a house with older kids because she still has some puppy in her and will mouth hands sometimes (never bites, just puppy mouthing) and I hope you like dog kisses because she has plenty to give! She is also particular about which other dogs she wants to play nice with. She either loves them.... or doesn't. She has been to the vet and is perfectly healthy and UTD on her shots. No re homing fee but she is not yet spayed and we would ask that you help us get that done before she comes to live with you permanently. (According to the vet, she had a litter of pups before we found her, much too young, and she doesn't need anymore.) If you think she looks cute in these pictures you will die when you see her because her clownish personality could not possibly be captured on film. Give us a call if you want to meet her! (508) 843-6650 ask for Molly.

BREED: Pot-Bellied Pig

AGE 3 years Old

Listed 1/29/12

I am a 3 year old female pot belly pig. I have been raised as an outside girl (so I am not house trained). I am accustomed to a large dog house with bedding, a heat lamp in the winter and small fan in the summer. I am not spayed and have never been bred. I am friendly but somewhat nervous around people. I am comfortable with dogs and other farm animals. I have never bitten anyone or shown any signs of aggression. I have always been healthy. Please e-mail Moose886@yahoo.com if you'd like more info about me.

Mimic *referral

BREED: Amazon Parrot

AGE 35 years Old

Listed 1/22/12

We are looking for a GOOD home for an approximately 35-year-old green Amazon Parrot.  Mimic was supposed to stay with us temporarily while our son investigated various career opportunities, but what was temporary has apparently become permanent.  Go figure.  Since May of last year we have grown to love Mimic but don’t really have the time to give him the attention he needs.  He has an amusing vocabulary: “watcha doin” means he wants some of whatever you are eating, and he laughs along with the laugh tracks on TV.  He says, “Hello, Mimic,” or simply “hello” or “bye-bye” when you head toward the door or wave.  He mutters a lot and says “don’t do it!” when agitated.  Interestingly, he prefers men, which has led us to believe he spent most of his earlier years around men instead of women.  Women need to maintain a healthy respect for his space.  He clearly enjoys their voices and company, but will not let them near him.  He sometimes snaps at women, which isn’t a problem as long as you keep your distance.  We do not know how he behaves around children.  Mimic comes with a large, beautiful cage and a separate rolling perch.  We are happy to share tips on what he likes to eat and how to keep his cage in good shape.  He’s a cool pet and we very much want him to have a good home. Contact Richard at 336.217.2582 (office) or 336.253.8093 (mobile).

Baby Kittens *referral

BREED DLH & DSH

AGE: Baby

Listed 12/29/11

They are 8 weeks old and came from a liter of 4 that we rescued from a feral cat colony in Winston Salem.  They are in good health and more and more playful daily.  The darker one – is long haired with a black head and feet.  His body is salt & pepper grey.  I have never seen a cat with this coloring.  He is a playful male!  The light grey one is a female.  She is a little shyer than her brother, but she does not hesitate to play!  She is a purr box when you get her started! Please call 336-580-7845 for more information or to inquire about adopting.

Gus & Tiger *referral

BREED DSH

AGE: Young

Listed: 12/29/11

Gus is a 4-1/2 month old, full of energy and extremely playful.  He is very sweet, loves to be petted.  He purrs as soon as you pick him up.  He loves other cats, especially his brother, Tiger. Tiger is 4-1/2 months old and loves everybody and everything!  He especially loves his brother Gus.  He is sweet and playful, but switches easily to a lap cat and purr machine when tired. Both of these cats were rescued as very young kittens from a feral colony.  They have been lovingly cared for by their caregiver. Please call 336-580-7845 for more information or to inquire about adopting.

Stella & Roscoe *referral

BREED Lab Mixes

AGE:

Listed 12/13/11

Stella & Roscoe - Two wonderful small lab mixes in search of a permanent caring home. They are most likely brother and sister as they both have the same markings. They both have been spade/neutered and microchipped. Both are house broken.  They are very affectionate but docile dogs. They get along well with other dogs. Stella is the black female and is approximately 35lbs. Roscoe is the tan male and is approximately 45lbs. They most likely have been neglected at some point and therefore have some separation anxiety.  So I would prefer them to be adopted as a pair. Please contact Troy at 571-221-7565.

Ty *referral

BREED Shep/Chow Mix

AGE: 7 years old

Listed 12/13/11

Ty loves to be with people, and is very happy to have you pet him all day. He loves going on walks, playing fetch and tug of war, and prefers the cold weather. He has been through the advanced dog training class at Petsmart, and remembers most of what he's learned (sit, stay, wait, down, roll over, high-five, and beg are his favorites). He'll do almost anything for a treat! Ty is house-broken and crate trained, although very recently has developed some separation anxiety to which he prefers to be out in the house rather than crated. He needs to be an only dog in the house, as he does not get along with strange dogs and sometimes has arguments with the Dachshunds he lives with. He has also already been micro-chipped and is up to date on all his shots. Please contact Helen at 336.312.2258.

Ross *referral

BREED: Hound Mix

AGE 2 years Old

Listed 12/13/11

Ross is a two year old hound mix. Neutered and all shots up to date. He has been with me since he was five weeks old. I have four dogs, one I adopted at the same time as Ross. They have a sibling rivalry issue that all the trainers said they just need to be separated. Ross is 45 pounds and sweet as pie. Loves to go on walks, plays with his kong, the dogs and anyone else around. He is also good w children; we have two whom he loves. Ross is my parvo baby and letting him go will take a piece of me with him. However I hope that he and Ella will be happier. Please contact Samantha at 688-2712.

BREED Terrier Mix

Age 3-4 & 2-3 years old

Listed 12/13/11

My name is Lady, and I very much am one. I am a terrier mix. I was found abandoned but it hasn’t made me bitter. I’m not quite sure how old I am but my foster parents and Vet think I’m between 3-4 years old. I am a very sweet and gentle girl who loves to be loved. I am very well mannered and pretty sure I’m potty trained. I really enjoy walks in the neighborhood. Chasing squirrels & the occasional cat in the yard is one of my favorite past times. I love to snuggle and be loved on and will crawl into your lap if you let me! Would you consider adopting me and my daughter too? Adopting us together would be wonderful. Please help me find my forever home!

Hello, my name is Baby and I am a female terrier mix. I was found abandoned but I am still a happy girl with lots of energy. I love to take long walks or runs. A big yard to run in would make me very happy and healthy. All I need is a place to run around during the day, and a nice warm bed to sleep in at night. I appear to be housetrained, and I know the command for sit but because I am very strong and high energy, I need more help with my doggie manners. I love car rides and would love to run and play in the park with you. If you’re looking for a dog to love and love you back, I’m your girl! Chasing squirrels & the occasional cat in the yard is one of my favorite past times too. Would you consider adopting me and my mom too? Adopting us together would be wonderful. Please help me find my forever home!

Sookie & Daisy *referral

BREED Calico  & Tabby

AGE: 3 years & 1 year old

Listed 11/27/11

Sookie is a small, long haired, gray, calico mix.  I am guessing that she is approximately 3 years old.  She is not spayed, as I cannot afford it, but is a very, very sweet animal.  Sookie is somewhat skittish at loud noises and will occasionally run from you if you are headed straight for her at a good pace; however, she is a genuinely wonderful cat.  She is beautiful and wonderful to pet.  Her coat is so soft.  She is not much of a lap cat, but loves to be rubbed and loved.  She will get along with other cats, but not likely dogs.

Daisy is a creamy orange tabby and white mix.  She is also small and is not spayed, but is fully grown.  I believe she is around a year old.  She is very sweet and has no skittishness or other issues whatsoever.  She would make a great pet for someone who has other cats, but has not been exposed to dogs. Please email maalexander@ymail.com for more information on these two beauties.

Molly *referral

BREED: Mix

AGE:20-22 months old

Listed 11/27/11

Molly is a 20-22 month old border collie/lab mix approx 50 pounds. She has lived in her current home for about 10 months but needs to find a new family who has lots of time to give her special attention! She is very timid at first but once she learns to trust you she is one of the sweetest and most playful dogs with lots of love to share. She is house trained and can follow basic commands (sit, down, leave it). Molly loves to explore outside, take walks, play fetch, and is used to having a fenced in yard. She is excellent with other dogs and would make a great companion dog … she has never been around cats or small children. Molly has separation anxiety and does not like to be left alone for long periods. She is spayed, up to date on all vaccines and current on heart worm/flea prevention. Please contact Sara at smessen@gmail.com (email preferred over phone) or 336-816-0979 if you would like to learn more about Molly.

Mamma & Princess *referral

BREED: Calico

AGE:Adult & 6 months

Listed 11/27/11

This beautiful Calico came to our back door in May, starving,  and thin I didn't know if she'd make it, and nursing a calico kitten.  We fed her and she purred and purred and rubbed up against us.  She was a delight.  When we were able to catch her and her kitten we brought them to the vet and guess what, Mamma was pregnant again with 5 babies! On suggestion of the vet, we brought Mamma and the kitten inside our home until the kittens were born, and we've been able to find homes for all of them except the oldest kitten.   Mamma and the oldest kitten, who was born in May, have both been spayed and their vaccines are up to date. Mamma is an outdoor cat who comes in for dinner and occasionally likes to sleep inside.  She has done fine with our neighbor's 3 dogs (2 golden retrievers and a mixed) and the neighborhood tom (who I'm sure is the father to many of the kittens). She purrs when petted, she mostly prefers to be on her own, but she is still great with our young children. Pictures 3 and 4 are of Mamma Patches outside. The oldest kitten, Princess, is very affectionate and a loud purrer.  She likes to go outside to see what's going on, but she comes back in after 20 minutes or so.  She gets along with her younger brother (that we've kept as an inside cat) and likes to knead you with her paws and purr when she is petted.  She is very sweet.  And our children love her.  Pictures 1 and 2 are of Princess on her sleeping pillow. Both cats have their claws and neither of them have done any scratching except for on the scratching post that we have.  Both are used to small children and noise. I will give you a litter box and a 16 lb bag of food with the adoption of either of the cats. Can you please help us find a good home for these cats. Please contact Stacey and Nathan at 336-643-1923

BREED:Cattledog Mixes

AGE: Young

Listed 11/27/11

These precious cattledog mixed breed puppies are 4 months old and absolutely delightful. They are super healthy, happy, and have had all shots, including rabies 2011. I just simply cannot keep them with the 5 animals I currently have. They are leash and potty trained and we would really LOVE to keep this brother and sister together if at all possible. They are currently being fostered in Boone with their 1.5 year old 80 lb. catahoula hound sister, Phoebe, and two large inside cats. Both puppies get along great with all kinds of dogs, cats, and children. Please call Carrie (828) 719-9304, or email carrie@mountaindognaturals.com for an interview to meet these sweethearts, they really deserve an active family to take them forever.

Dillaro *referral

BREED: Persian

AGE:

Listed 11/27/11

Dillarro is a wonderful loving kitty. He plays alone and sleeps a lot. He would be great for one person, probably not a good idea to put with other animals since he is use to just his mother and I his whole life. Dillarro is a submissive and docile kitty, he has never been bad behaved except to urinate on a rug when let out on a sun porch all night without food or water so he rebelled. Please help me with finding him someone to love him and share his years to come with. He has had his shots and is treated monthly for fleas. He is only an indoor cat and would not be able to survive any other way. I have him on Purina One Urinary Tract Health andIndoor Formula dry food. I give him 1/2 can of wet food once a week only, he seems to do well on the dry diet but does enjoy a treat once a day. If interested in adopting Dillarro please email me at gayla1009@gmail.com.

BREED: Lab/ Terrier Mix?

Mattie is a female mix of some kind. She has a good temperament and is friendly, energetic and affectionate. She is good with small children  (I have two small children). Her previous owner says she is good with cats.  I would guess she is a labrador retriever mix (with terrier). Mattie was originally adopted from a shelter so she is already spayed. Naji *referral

BREED:unknown

AGE: 1 year

Listed 11/14/11

Naji is thought to be a male lab mix, estimated to be 1 year old and to
weigh about 30 pounds. He is very smart & already understands "sit",
"come", & "leave it." He walks well on a leash, is very sweet-natured,
energetic, and loves to cuddle and play. He is crate and house-trained,
good w/cats and other dogs. He has not done well with kids so far, but is
young and can likely be trained to be around children with no problem. He will be neutered and up-to-date on shots before he goes to his forever
home. Naji's mom loves him very much and is sad to let him go, but must do so due to a change in her living situation and wants only the best for him as he is a great dog. If you think Naji might be the dog for you, please contact Selena at (336) 209-1211 or

Zoe *referral

BREED: Poodle

AGE: 7-9 years Old

Listed 11/2/11

Zoe is approximately 7-9 years old, she was used for breeding and in a bad situation when we found her.  We’ve gotten her cleaned up now and want to find a forever home for her.  She has an awesome personality and is energetic (not hyper!) and loves to play.  She gets along well with dogs and cats.  She is spayed, and has her current rabies vaccination and is worm-free.  She is crate-trained and we are working on house-training but still having some accidents if she is left out of her crate for an extended period without being let outside—she doesn’t know how to “ask” yet.  She is still very skittish due to her previous situation, especially around children, and needs to be in a home with no kids or older kids for her own happiness and sense of security.  We’re still working on her socialization, but she has come a long way in the last couple of months that we’ve had her and we would love for her to go to someone who can be patient with her as she adjusts to life outside of a cage!  She does need a good dental cleaning and we have not given any vaccinations outside of her rabies shot.Contact Kristen at ofc129@gmail.com!

Sonic *referral

BREED: Husly/Lab Mix

AGE: 1 1/2 years Old

Listed 11/2/11

My name is Sonic and I am a 1 ½ year old Husky/Lab mix.  I am looking for a nice family who has lots of room for me to run and play.  I have lots of energy.   My current owners try to get me out to play and run when they can but sometimes they don’t have the time.  They also live in a close knit neighborhood and quite honestly I need more room.  I am very smart and have learned a few tricks but would love to learn more.  I know how to run on leash with my current owners and love to run with someone on a bicycle even more.  I have gotten all my shots and I have been “fixed”.   I have a dog and cat friend in my current home and like other animals but sometimes they don’t like me because I am so big and I get a little excited with my husky handshake and scare them off but all I want to do is play.  If you think I would be a good fit for you, please contact my current owners at:  whizkidsandco@hotmail.com.

Scruffy *referral

BREED: Poodle Mix

AGE: 8-9 years Old

Listed 10/23/11

Found in Winston-Salem on Thursday, October 13. We have scoured local "Lost Dog" postings and have found no posting for him. No collar, tag, or microchip. This is a photo of "Scruffy" after being shaved (due to matting). He has been checked by the vet, and given his vaccines. He is neutered and heartworm negative. He is 8 - 9 years old, has cataracts and possibly hearing loss. We know he can see light and things close to his face, but not sure about the extent of vision loss. He squints his eyes tightly when out in the sun. Right now he has a mouth infection being treated with antibiotics. He has a follow up vet appointment later this week. He is very timid/scared, but is getting more accustomed to being petted and handled. He snaps when you put your hands close to his neck or mouth - we think this may be due to the pain from his mouth infection.  We don't know anything about his history - suspect he may have been kept outside. He is 8 pounds, apricot in color. He is adorable and needs someone who can give him some TLC and get him used to being a spoiled, indoor dog. Inquiries can be directed to 336-686-6847.

BREED:Coonhound/ Dane Mix

AGE:5 Months Old

Listed 10/10/11

Hi this cute pup was born on May 4, 2011. His mother is purebred Black and Tan Coonhound, father ??? -We're thinking black lab/great dane mix. He is very special, sweet, well behaved pup, completely housebroken, trained - knows sit, come, and walks on a leash.  Stonewall is wonderful with children, other dogs, gentle with cats (doesn't chase), respectful of horses. He has been wormed at 2, 4, 6, weeks and 3 months, has had all shots except rabies - due to be neutered at 6 months. We rescued Stonewall's mother in early April, she had 10 puppies and we have placed the puppies in wonderful homes. We found a great home for Stonewall in August (we had socialized him well before - part of the reason he has such a wonderful disposition/exc. temperament) and his new owner recently had to move and couldn't take Stonewall. We were happy to take him back and he's been a total joy for us. We would keep him if we didn't have 4 house dogs already. He is going to be a GREAT dog for someone, and he's going to be big and very handsome, I love this dog. Please spread the word, excellent home only. Thank you please contact Becky at 336-754-3178 or cell 336-757-2805.

Eva and Jinx are two beautiful Ragdoll Cats looking for a furever home.  They must stay together and they must be indoors only.   They were abandoned by their owner in February 2011 and we took them in hoping to provide a home for them.  We fell in love their sweet personalities right away.  Sadly, it turns out we have cat allergies!  We are heartbroken at the thought of rehoming them.  They have had a lot of changes in their short lives, so we are looking for someone who can keep them together and provide a stable home for them.  We have two small children and two dogs; they have adjusted well to them all, but ideally would do best in a home where they are the only babies.

Eva is between 2 and 3 years old.  She is very sweet and curious.  She loves to play and wants to be wherever you are.  She is a great natured girl and has never been aggressive with us or our kids.  She is scared of thunder and vacuum cleaners.  She has been spayed and is up to date on her shots.  She also tested FELV/FIV negative.  She has had a couple urinary tract infections but is doing well since she has been eating a combo of Science Diet C/D canned food and Avoderm hard food.

Jinx is between 1 and 2 years old.  He is a cautious boy and takes a while to warm to you, but once he does, he is a sweetheart.  He stays under the bed when the house is loud, but once it is quiet, he will come sit with you to get love.  He loves to be scratched and will purr and suck on his feet when he is happy.  He sings to you when he wants love or food.  He loves me especially and my husband, but is still afraid of the children. He is not aggressive at all though; he will run and hide when he is scared.  He has not been vetted yet and needs his shots and to be neutered.

They love each other very much.  They both use the litter box with no issues (other than when Eva had a UTI), and neither of them spray.  They will both sleep with or near you.  If you or someone you know can provide a peaceful, loving, permanent home for the two of them, please contact Karisa at 336-869-9964 or ksandiford@hotmail.com

BREED: Australian Cattle Dog Mix

AGE: 5 Years

Listed 6/7/11

Culdi is originally a pound puppy, found in a culdesac (hence her name). The first few years of her life were spent in a backyard keeping another dog company. She was not socialized well, and due to her breeding, this left her with obsessive compulsive type behaviors. She now lives in a large area with one other dog and the misplaced behaviors have decreased. Culdi loves to learn new tricks and is very smart. She needs an active home, as she is very active physically and mentally. She would make a very good working dog because of her strong focus and natural ability to herd.  Culdi is a very affectionate dog and is spayed and up-to-date on all shots.  Please contact Stephanie at (704) 661-4184 or stephwhitt@att.net if you are interested in adopting Culdi.

BREED: Husky Mix

AGE: 3 Years

Listed 3/8/11

Randolph is a 3 year old husky mix.  He is very high energy and very obedient.  He loves to go for walks.  He must have a family that can walk him every day without missing.  He can walk on a treadmill for those bad weather days, but it must happen with him every day.  He needs a home without other dogs and without children younger than 10.  A fenced yard would be good for him but cannot take away from his structured walks.  He is about 45 pounds, and very social.  Loves to be rubbed and is obedience trained from Shiloh K-9.  Anyone who adopts him would receive a two hour take home (in the Piedmont area) at no charge with Adam Witherspoon from Shiloh K9.  Please send an email to shilohk9@triad.rr.com if you are interested in adopting Randolph.
